i have a 94 caprice with a lt1 engine and i have put a new timing chain...

...and i try to start the car it backfire?
i did that first piston was at top and then dot to dot put it back togethr and the car still backfires when i try to start it
 
The timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft gears should be straight across and point at each other. Recheck the timing. Remove the valve cover and number 1 spark plug. turn engine by hand watch the rocker arms one number 1 cylinder,when number 1 piston comes to top 6 degrees before T.D.C the rockers arms should show both valves closed. Aline the timing marks.
