I have a '93 ford escort, it won't start in park I have to put it in neutral

and it will start sometime.? It won't start in park I have to put it in neutral and it will start sometime.
What is wrong?

The neutral safety switch needs adjustment or needs to be replaced.

seems to be a problem with the gearbox, id take it to the mechanic be prepared to spend big.
