I have a 92 dodge stealth r/t 5 speed that won't switch gears?

I figure the clutch is out. I had it towed home and can't afford the tow to a mechanic just to look at it. Anyone have any idea what could definitely be wrong. One of my friends went out on a drive with it. He grinded the gears once, he said, and then the car started letting out a bad smell. Eventually the car would stop engaging into gear. It only accelerates.
 
clutch problem. you probably have a bad throwout bearing. If so you would not be able to shift gears with the engine running, as the clutch will not disengage. had this happen a few times on farm machinery
