minute, is this normal? It doesnt matter the temp of the engine. It still takes a full minute to slow to the idel speed of 600 rpm's. My dodge deler tells me that is normal, but I find it hard to believe I have to wait a full minute every time I start the truck to be able to take off.

Try replacing the coolant sensor. It controls the idle speed and fuel mixture. Essentially, it is the choke for fuel injection

Going up to 1300 RPM then dropping sounds normal but dropping to 600 doesn't sound right. the idle should drop to 800, assuming that you have a cummins diesel
