I got my sons a 2004 50cc suzuki jr that will not start today. it has a vacuum line off the bottom of the carburetor that is really lone but goes no where. where is this line supposed to go and could that be why the bike is not starting. I am a auto tech but i don't have much bike experience. the guy i got the bike off of said there had just been a lot of work done not long ago. it has a new plug and the carb looks almost new. if anyone has some ideas of some things i should try i would be very happy to hear them. thanks much

The line coming off the bottom of the carb should not be a vacuum line but rather an overflow line that should drain to the ground. It is possible that the vacuum line from the petcock has come loose, Look at the petcock on the gas tank. You should see 2 lines, one bigger than the other. The one that usually goes straight down toward the ground is the fuel line, the one that comes off the back (usually) is a vacuum line it will be about 1/4 inch while the fuel line is usually larger. Sometimes the 2 lines are side by side coming off the back or off the bottom of the petcock.

When you try to start the bike, are you sure you have fuel getting to the spark plug? Do you have spark at the plug.

The principals are the same with any engine-compression, fuel/air in the right mix and getting to the chamber and spark at the right time.
