my truck is a 2002 dodge ram and the check engine light is on, they told me i needed a new battery and everytime i moved the battery cables the light goes off but about a day later the light appears again i dont know if is the battery let me know thanks

you only need to replace the cables or the terminals its just a loose connection. as for the part stores, well they want you to buy a new part from them so what do you think theyll tell you?

The very first thing you should check when a check engine light comes on is fluid levels. Some are sensitive to oil levels in the oil pan, some come on because it's time to change the oil, and low coolant and low washer fluid levels as well as low powersteering fluid level can make it pop on. A faulty or loose gas cap can do the same thing.

Take it to AutoZone for a free battery check to rule that out and have them pull the computer codes to see if anything shows.

Any time you disconnect the battery you clear any trouble codes in the computer. And then they pop up a few hours or days later if the problem still exists.

Good Luck!

try replacing the battery cables or the end pieces and see if that cures the problem ,if not have a computer scan done to determine what the code is that made the light come on,then you,ll know more about what to do to repair it,good luck.

that sounds like my car but my problem is that the hot cable gets corroded and when i clean it then the light will stay out for a long time until it gets corroded again.
