i have a 1999 ford escort zx2 it just sounds like the starters just spinning and doesnt

sound like its turn ov? it was running fine when on the way to my buddys then when i went to leave it started fine but when i took off i was takn off very slow i then gave it more gas but still wouldnt speed up then it just shut off i started it , it ran but very roughly it sounded like it was bogin out and when i let of the gas it died then it wouldnt even try to turn over just sounds like the starters spinning wutch u think
