charging system prompt came on? I have a 1999 cadillac deville concours, several days ago the "service charging system" prompt on dash came on, quickly followed by the red battery icon and another dash prompt reading" battery not charging". After MUCH work a new altenator, battery and wiring harness to the altenator has been installed, but the "service charging system" prompt is still on and the it is only putting out 12.1 volts where previously it put out 14 volts. What else could it possibly be??? Please help. I can not afford to take it to the dealership.
 
Tanya from what you have stated you need to call your local auto parts store or battery store and ask if they do a free electrical system check.I have see tons of alternator's from the box that don't work up to specs.The electrical test will show if the alternator is the cause of the problem or some form of wiring issue.Best of luck.
