i have a 1991 toyota 4 runner v6. how can i prevent a blown head gasget?

everyone tells me it is a crap car, but it is my first and so far I love it. the v6's are known to blow head gassgets and that would not be all that great. so how could i prevent it? or do i have to just wait till it happens to fix it?
