i have a 1990 toyota celica and it runs and idles fine. but i have a loss of...

...power when i hit the gas? i just replaced the throttle positioning sensor and thought tha may have been it, the problem is it idles fine but when you hit the gas you can get right up to about 2500rpm and it dies. im completely lost with this and im a college student and this is my only car. i gotta fix it. please help me.
heres the mega bummer. my check engine light is one but my obd1 plug is melted and unable to give a reading. now im unable to drive it at all because i cant get it to stay running. if i so much as press the gas pedal quickly it dies, i can take it up to 2500rpm slowly where it will spit and stall out again as if i pushed it fast.
i heard it doesnt have a map sensor where as it has that hole piece connected to the intake. can that be cleaned or what else?
i cleaned the egr valve out and i read also this model doesnt have a pcv valve and just ran out to see if i had one but am unable to locate it. im still researching tho.
