...this normal? Hi everyone, I have a 1987 2 stroke mercury outboard serial # OB111664. I started the motor for the first time today and ran it while I made adjustments to the idle and shifting rods. It ran great but smoked a little. I may have mixed it a little heavier than 50;1 just in case because I bought it used and wanted to be safe. I already changed the lower unit oil and when I ran it I put it in a tank of water. My only concern is when I took it out of the tank to finish for the day I went back to clean up and found oil leaking out from around the prop area. It is black and smells a little burnt, not like gear oil. Is this normal? I have been researching it and some say it is because of the heavier mixture I used and it is unused fuel mixture coming from the exhaust. I will check the lower unit oil again tommorrow and make sure its not milky. Any advise would be appreciated, Thank you.
