head gasket, get it fixed? i pulled in to a repair shop to get a estimate and i look out and smoke is billowing out of the hood, i pop the hood and the coolant is boiling and it wont start. i eventually get it running but the engine sputters and no heat.i am thinking its a head gasket
i only paid 600 for it and i am wondering if it is even worth putting that kind of money back into it? anyone have this happen to them and anyone have any suggestions?

I am thinking more a stuck thermostat or broken fan belt or fan is not working : is more the problem. I don't understand why everybody jumps to the head gasket. They used to blame the carburator(when it was another problem, but because the carburator is something they didn't understand - it must be that. Head gaskets lay there. Don't do anything else. Thermostats have to move- they have moving parts and moving parts are prone to fail.
