...rebuilt but smokes? I have 350 small block engine that has an exhaust problem that I can not fix, it smokes out of the right tail pipe of my dual exhaust, please let me know what I can do to remedy the problem or what my best options are to correct the problem, when I start the car it sounds great and Idles fine but when I get on it, it smokes considerably out the right rear. I also have had the valve cover gaskets and covers replaced but it still leaks on both sides. I used steel valve covers, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also how much would it cost me to replace and or rebuild the engine. Unfortunately I do not have the funds to buy a new one and am wondering if I found a used 350 how much would it cost to remove and replace it. Thank you for reading this.

since you are speaking of oil I will assume the leak is oil and the smoke is blue, and when you get on it it smokes then I would guess the valve seals are gone so you need a valve job, you may have a bad valve and to test pull one spark plug wire at a time when the smoke goes away you will know what cylinder is leaking. Once you know get a compression guage and run a compression test on the bank that smokes if you get a 10 % reading then you need rings, it should run 120 PSI on all cylinders, you would be better off just rebuilding what you have, you can buy a rebuilt crate engine from any parts store for about 1500 dollars you can buy an engine kit with rings pistons bearings and most things you need to rebuild for about 600 dollars then you need to get the machine work done the heads would cost about 120 each for rebuilt or 200 to have your heads rebuilt. machine work will cost you 2 or 3 hundred dollars depending what all you get done.
