I have a 1000w stepdown transformer to power a TV and gadgets in Europe. How

much power does it drain at idle? I am concerned that I am losing a bunch of money by doing this. Also, while using the transformer, I pull only 350 watts, but does it pull all 1000 watts to accomplish this? I tend to turn the transformer on and off when I use it and then walk away...but can I leave it on? Any links to helpful websites are also appreciated. Most people have given advice here that is really uninformed, but I have heard it often enough, now I question whether I am throwing money away. Thanks...
 
At idle, it should draw about 40 to 60 watts. There will always be
some current flow in the primary as long as it is connected properly
to a stable power source / load center. If you calculate 350 watts of
all of your appliances, in actuality, the power consumption wouldn't
be that great. I figure about 300 to 310 watts at best, off the top of
my head. You can leave it on, but I'm always a little leary about any
appliance, except refrigerators. Me, I would turn it off, unless it runs
