I have a normal 10 gallon tank. My four goldfish had recently died due to old age. (didn't all die at the same time) I want more fish but have no idea what to get? I want something cheap that can live a while (not goldfish) and also I want something that is very low maintenance. I would also prefer a variety of fish. I refuse to buy a bigger because there is no place to put it. The tank has a filter and an oxygen thingy
(I forget what they are called) I would also like the average price per fish please, im on a very tight budget nowadays. Thanks for your help! Best answer will be scored on who gave me the cheapest but best fish.

There isn't really any such thing as low maintenance, when it comes to fish. ESPECIALLY in a 10 gallon tank. I had one, and couldn't keep up with all the work.

I had guppies, average price was about 2-5 bucks each. But I would highly recommend the males, because they are extremely colourful, with many different varieties. If you get females, they will mate like crazy, and you'll end up with more fish than you can handle.

I wouldn't suggest getting more than 8 or 9, as the waste levels will actually poison them.

But it's good to get some mystery snails, they come in black and yellow, and are usually also 2-5 bucks each. They'll help keep the rocks and sides clean of algae.

Again, I would recommend holding off pets altogether if you're looking for something low mainenance. Even fish take a lot of cleaning on a regular basis.

I like platies... they come in all kinds of colors and they are inexpensive... about 2 dollars each.

Guppies are colorful too and inexpensive...I think they are about the same as platies

Maybe a few tetras too. I think they are in the 2 dollar range as well.

1 platy, 2 male guppies and 3 small tetras would be very inexpensive, colorful, and work with a small tank.

I assume you want freshwater fish. I suggest tetras, angelfish (caution: when food time comes they are hogs), platy, cory (bottom-feeder), and barbs. They are simple fish and should work well together.

Go to PetSmart - if you have one - they will be able to tell you what fish go well in tanks together. They also guarantee the fish for like 7 days of something.
