I have a 10 gallon FW tank but I am looking for exotic or fun fish?

I don't want a ton and yes i do have knowledge of stetting up their home.
I took a feeder gold fish which don't live real long and it lived 4 years until it ate an infected snail and it was down hill from that. one becomes very educated when they are worried about what a member of their family has. Yes Hannibal was a member. Named him that because he ate EVERY fish in the tank. But now it is time to move on and i want a very pretty fish any suggestions. if you can send pics that would be great... i like to be informed before i buy
Wow thanks for all the replies! I have a beta he likes his big bowl and I have a mirror behind it it is sooo funny. He's going on his 3rd year. I call him wonder fish...

Ok, first... Feeder goldfish are kept in poor conditions. If you get one thats in good health... They are comet goldfish and they can live 15-20 years pretty easily.

Angelfish grow far too large for a 10 gallon. They need at least a 29 gallon tank.

Male bettas (but only keep one. no other females or males in the tank with him)

I had links for everything, but it wouldnt let me continue with that many. I kept getting errors.

A 10 gallon would suit all these fish perfectly. You could get a male betta, and 6 neon tetras, and maybe two or three cory catfish. That would work out fine.

But, if you put a betta in an 8oz cup, I sure do hope someone smacks you. Bettas should not be in any less than 2.5 gallons of heated and filtered water.

Other than that... Thats all that comes to my head right now, maybe others will have ideas.
 
I like Angelfish. Look into them. They're pretty and unique. Also, there are some tiny breeds of sharks you can find at the pet store. But make sure they're not salt water. Well, they can be salt water, but its harder to change the water, add water, keep equipment clean, etc.

Also, a Beta can live in a coffee cup and be happy. They're fiercely territorial, so they like to live in a tiny space where they feel safe, secure, and stress-free. You can literally put one in an 8 oz. glass and not feel bad for doing so. But do not mix them with any other fish.
 
Try some fun little tetras (Cardnial or Neon) or how about those awesome ones that glow under a black light. I love freshwater trops. There are so many neat varaties. I had mollies, guppies, and tetras (different times) in my small tank. I love tropicals. They are so fun! Um try and google Tropical Fish, and check out what is good for what sized tank. Some live in small tanks well(My gram had those little cardinal or neon tetras and the lived for about 9 years in her 10 gallon hex. the didn't die until the filter clogged up one night and they were dead in the morning). I'm more into Koi myself and gold fish (like bubble eyes) but if you look up freshwater tropical fish on google or tropical aquarium fish on google youll get tons of information. Trust me on that one. Thats how I found out about quite a few of the species I ended up with in my tanks.
Some may say Chilids but they do get large and need lots of space and room to grow ( that grow to their tank size is a lie)

well good luck and look up different species on google. Its your best bet. They'll give you lists of awesome exotic fish on some sites.


The Enlightened Cow stated: "Bettas are happy to live in a coffee cups worth of water" UM NO THEY ARE NOT. Bettas survive in puddles if they HAVE TO, but they live Much Much longer in a 10 gallon aquarium than they do much much much better. They generally live longer, are healthier, and can actually get a bit bigger. Don't listen to what petstores tell you about bettas (Unless you already know) those little 2 gallon tanks they sell for people to keep bettas in are total crap. Bettas As Long as they are NOT kept with OTHER BETTAS can be community fish. Only Females can be kept with one another. Males sometimes can be kept in community tanks with other tropicals that are NON AGGRESSIVE/NON fin nippers.

And after seeing another comment about AngelFish. Angel Fish Prefer tall tanks, and MOST stores and breeders will tell you minimum tank size is 20 gallons. Many have them outgrow their small tanks.

How about getting some guppies? You could fit a few in a 10g and there are lots of pretty varieties. You'll need a heater though...
