I have a 02 chevy venture van and I was wondering if there is any other coolant...

...you can use other then dexcool? While replacing my thermostat and filling my radiator with dexcool the temp gauge seem to be running worse. SO after some research I have found that the Dexcool has been known to cause several problems in these GM vehicles. Is it ok to use the 50/50 mix in these cars?

You could, but a lot of folks won't recommend it. I can't remember if my mechanic used DEXCOOL in my engine or if he used Prestone. Probably used DEXCOOL.

The DEXCOOL coolant that GM requires is linked to intake manifold gasket failures in the majority of GM's vehicles. Its a frustrating $650 repair give or take. You usually can spot the leak before it gets any worse. The stock ones are pretty weak as it is so if you got a stronger one next time you replace it you'll probably be fine.

For what its worth, I know several Blazer owners who use Prestone (that's approved for our DEXCOOL vehicles) instead of DEXCOOL for several years without any problems.
