have been told that 10/40 is ok? I was going to use 10/40 in my old Honda, but i have recently found that Castrol do 10/30 oil. I live in the UK, so i want to make sure that i use the right oil for my old machine which wont compramise performance or protection. Its a 1960's Honda 125cc bike

What is the diffrence between 10/30 and 10/40? as there doest apear to be much in running temperatures

Use which ever formula of oil you want to. the first number is the "thickness" of the oil when the engine is cold. In this case they are both "10". The second number is the "thickness" of the oil when the oil is hot. In this case one is "30" and one is "40" There is some difference between a 30 and 40 but nothing to worry about either one will work fine with your old Honda. Try which ever one you can get plenty of at every store or service station.

If it is supposed to use 10/30 then by all means use that weight. The viscosity difference at temperature makes a difference in how the oil flows through the engine. The engineers who made the engine are the ones who recommend the weight of oil to be used. They know it's needs.
