I had a hold put on a gun I was going to buy?

I live in OR and I was buying a shot gun at a retail store and after filling out all the info and the guy working there told me that there was a hold put on it for 2weeks and I am a little pissed because I was buying it a's a Xmas gift I did buy a hand gun about 2 or 3 months ago could that be a cause for the hold and if so how could I get around this if there is one
