When i was 16, i was living in a large apartment building in boston, massachusetts. the building was on mass avenue, (the largest main street boston has.)

I was in the care of the department of social services, which takes care of homeless children. At the time, i had been placed on the second floor, but they had decided to bump me up to the 3rd.

The first time i ever stepped foot onto the third floor, it felt like i'd done something wrong. I remember halfway up the stairs, i suddenly felt cold. Very cold, as though someone had stood me in front of a refrigerator with the door open. Then, as i ascended, i felt as though there was something screaming at me, the feeling of glazed fear you get when you know you're about to get the crap kicked out of you, and you can't stop it.

I was afraid, but after i met my roommate, who assured me he had lived on that floor for some time, i calmed down, and tried to relax. the feeling eventually subsided, but as i lived on that floor, for about a week, i felt nervous and jumpy, as though someone was watching me, just over my shoulder.

Then the doors started.

The closet door to the room i was staying in was adjoined to another room, and me and my roommate's explanation for it's behavior was that the air pressure from one room to the other caused the doors to open. The thing is- they would open on their own all the time- but not usually all the way. often, one door would open, then the other, so you could see into the spare, and empty- room.

There were a few times, that the door would simply slam open, and more than once this scared the living hell out of us, but we convinced each other of our wind theory, and set things in front of it. it would still rattle, but it was a hell of a lot better than earth-shattering slams.

Then one day, i was going back upstairs to the room. i remember it was late night, i'm not sure when. I got up there, and called up to my roommate, regarding we play some monopoly. He didn't answer. when i got to the top of the flight, i remember having that cold feeling again, the feeling of something about to strike. as i looked into the room, i saw him lying on the floor, as though hypnotized. he was lying in the shape of jesus on the cross, his feet one over the other, his arms spread. as i looked at him, he turned to me. and stared. i remember i was scared out of my mind, because his eyes looked glazed over, like he wasn't looking at me at all.

The door to closet opened, slowly, until it was fully open. it was then, looking/not looking at me, that he said:

"Don't worry. They won't hurt you."

I Hit the stairs at maybe 50 miles and hour and never went back up. No matter what the staff said, i refused to go up to that floor ever again.

They moved me to the second floor, and that's when the dog started.

Every night for weeks after, i would fall asleep, and have the same dream.

In the dream, an enormous, spiked dog with glowing red eyes sat outside of my window on the fire escape, looking in at me. It would sit there growling, and i would realize, staring at this thing, that it could kill me whenever it wanted. That i was dead. There was nothing i could do, nowhere i could run. And i would simply stare back, horrified.

When i moved from the house, the dreams stopped.

I want to know why this happened. I want to understand. I just started looking into dog apparitions, and as it turns out black dogs are apparently prevalent in ghost sightings.

The thing in my dream was no conventional dog. It was huge, enormously huge, about the size of a bear. it was pitch black with glowing red eyes.

This dream was continuous every night for over three months until i moved out of the house. It did not follow me.
