I can be a better buddhist? Buddhist scripture says I can't achieve happiness or enlightenment without learning true compassion. How can I learn compassion?

Born Again, Buddha is not my god. I have no god and I probably won't ever have a god. Buddha is one of the enlightened and has revealed a practical way to achieve happiness which has been proven to work through practice and it makes sense when you think about it, please consider the Four Noble Truths.
