I got rear ended today when i was sitting at traffic lights (very obviously his fault)

He destroyed the back of my car, crumpled boot, the body of my entire car has been "twisted" if that makes sense? All lights broken etc. All of the panels have been twisted too. all out of line.

My car is a 1995 honda prelude. It is probably only worth 4-5k. At the scene, we exchanged license details etc. However he drove the car around the corner so i couldnt' see the license plate numbers. All the info i have is, he wrote down for me his name, his license number, his address , email and phone number. and i saw his license.

Down the road at the service station there were cops who came up and looked at my car (they didn't see the accident). The cop had a chat to me and gave me his name, and said if i have any problems with the man to call him so he gave me his station number.

SO i called him to ask for insurance details. He says, "i don't know who owns the car, i don't know the plate numbers and i don't know where the car is"..... He wouldn't 'talk' or admit anything.

What do i do? We're in Queensland. what are my rights and how do i get payment for the damages? when i dont know his insurer (if he even owns the car, or even has one)?
