I got electrocuted..

I was moving my pc upstairs and in the process of unplugging the power plug from the surge protector, it was a bit harder to remove then usual so I
decided to go a bit further down on the plug and try again. Yeah, not the best idea.

I got shocked.

This is not the first time, but it is the first time I've ever been shocked by the actual house power...

I know it wasn't a little shock, because I did the usual thing people did.. now if only I knew how to spell this..

You know, the usual deddede, or however its spelled.

The surge protector did not trip or anything...

But yeah, it went through my thumb to my index finger, im pretty sure it then disharged through the power cord and into the ground. (My index finger
was touching the rubber when this happened and the end of the cord was on the ground)

Erm, im rambling.

What I wanted to know was how close to death this was exactly?. Because house power is hooked up to the damn power grid and has a lot of amperage going
through it. I'm 18, so I have no wish to die any time soon.

I wear a metal ring and watch to, on the same hand... whatever. I was probably stepping on a rubber power cord or two as well. No, I was not wearing
shoes.

Also, is there anything I should look out for from this experience?. Heart issues or anything?.

Still have a loss of general feeling on the top of my thumb and index finger. It's not numb, just dull.

Thank you.

I electrocuted myself too, many years ago. I was working in a sign shop and we used a device called the electro-pounce machine, as part of the sign making process. It was basically and electrically charged stylus, that you held like a pencil, and it burned little holes in paper, to make a pattern from.

I lost my concentration, and stuck the hot end right into my mouth, like a pencil. WOW! The next thing I knew, I was on the floor across the room, 8 ft away. It hurt!

I was stunned for awhile, and I did have electric burns in my mouth, but I recovered fine, and had no long term effects.

I hope the same goes for you, but certainly...if your pain does not subside, or if you have any other side effects, I would let your doctor know. Good luck!

Darksoul, you just had a common shock that people get every day. It's nothing to really worry about. The electricity didn't really travel thru your body, maybe just some parts, such as fingers, but not you body. Make no mistake, house current can kill you (which is why the ground is so important, so the elec has an alternative way to travel), but everyday shocks are usually nothing to worry about unless you have another medical condition that might be awakened by the shock.
