I got arrested, and the cops took my cellphone and called my contacts on it

(without permission) is this legal? Yesterday, I had a little run in with police. I stole something and was caught.
The cops searched me, dumped everything in my pockets on the floor. He then told me that I needed someone to come and "help me pay" for this since I didn't have money. He took my cellphone and used it. (without my permission) He scrolled through all my contacts, calling people one after another, asking people on there if they could come with money, and pay the money I owed.
He embarassed me. My pride is broken. He called a bunch of people (it was 2 in the morning) including my grandmother and my father. He woke them up and told them what was going on.

While this was happening, I asked him if it was legal for him to just take my phone and call anyone he wants to on it like that. He told me to "sit down and shut up" and "stop talking".
I then told him I have a friend who is a lawyer, and asked for his badge number (I was bluffing, I wanted to scare him so he would stop.) This didn't stop him. He said what he was doing was perfectly legal, he told me to shut up or he would "take me to prison".

It ended with my grandmother having to drive across town at 2:00am and paying for me.

My question is this: Is what the cop did fully legal?
And if it is, what is something I can do to get him in trouble if it happens again?
Forgot to add: I am 19

You are legally an adult so I see no reason for him to play with your phone. You are entitled to one phone call, so you could have called who ever you wanted. I think Mr Look at me I'm a Cop- needs an atitude adjustment. It may not do any good but you should file a complaint against him.

Im not sure where you are from but it sounds illegal. I am quite sure that a police officer cannot go through your phone without a warrant. If you ask for his badge number he MUST give it to you. Sounds like this cop was on a power trip.
I believe you should talk to someone with legal expertise, I doubt you will get far but it may stop the police officer doing this again.
