I got a fish tank from a friend without a stand. I need to know what gallon it is.?

The measurements are 30 X 19 X 12 (sides). If you can help be that'd be great. Also, I wanted to just get some coy fish for this tank. Any suggestions on how to start the tank would be great, I know to get a filter and let the water sit for a day or two, any other things I need to know? Do I have to have a lid? Thanks.
