I guess you are having trouble stretching the spring to get it to fit over the locating pin.
This is a simple trick.
1/ Fit the spring at one end
2/ Tie a piece of strong cord around the other end of the spring
3/ Pull the cord backwards and tie it tight around one of the spokes at the bottom of the wheel
4/ Roll the bike forwards a few inches

This will stretch the spring making it possible to fit the hook over the pin.

have a friend hold the bike up,or lean it against a wall, hook the spring onto the stand,tape/tie the stand in the up position, grab the other end of the spring (just the tip)with a pair of vise grips, pull it onto the pin.

A brake spring tool is used for that purpose.
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=all&item_ID=12371&group_ID=1676&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog
The end of the tool has an indent.
The indent grabs the kickstand pin.
The spring is hooked over the tool.
The tool is pried away from the kickstand (pivoting on the kickstand pin) and the spring slides down the shaft of the tool and hooks over the pin.

An alternative to the tool is a phillips head screw driver.
The tip of the screw driver - will grab the kickstand pin.
With the spring hooked over the screw driver balde, pry the screw driver away from the pin and the spring will slide down the shaft of the screw driver and hook onto the kickstand pin.

Do these procedures with the kickstand in the up position.
