I got a 1995 ford escort wagon 1.9liter automatic?

the tranny shifts good and everything but as soon as i take a left the tranny acts like its in neutral no matter what gear u put it in and u have to shut the car off for awhile and wait then restart the car, reput it in gear and it works again. Well most time it does but some times u have to wait longer.. Pease help
