I get swollen fingers, toes, bottom of feet, palms, and occasionally scrotum?

I went to the Doctor and was told it was a food allergy. This seems unlikely because it manifests mainly while I sleep, also it is too random when it occurs. Oh yes I notice that it happens more during the change in seasons, not sure if this helps. Any Ideas?
