If you get this message: "word cannot create the work file check the temp environment variable," it's most likely caused by having a removable device, like an external hard drive being disconnected. This means you won't be able to use word "on the go" in a laptop. So, I found that if you have vista, which is easiest to do these steps (xp and others do not have a built in partitioner and space shrinker). First: remember what letter your external hard drive shows up as...2: disconnect it...3: right click on my computer or computer and hit manage...4: go down to disk management...5: the window will show the drives connected to your computer. right click on the one with the operating system and select "shrink volume"...:6: go through the process and make it 4GB (4000 in the box)...7: next, right click on the "unallocated" partition (black in color) and hit "create new partition" and make sure it's ntfs, and change the drive leter to the one that your external drive had. click ok, and restart your cdomputer.
