I finally told my lawyer about doing workstudy, how will a judge view this situation?

My lawyer said he didn't think having a work-study job would hurt my chances of getting SSI but I was wondering how would a judge interpret me getting a sheltered job? I'm not expected to do much here, so I spend a lot of time studying or playing on the computer (I got through my FAFSA packet at school based on financial need) and it's only temporary. I get paid $7.50 an hour. Even though I have to report my earnings to HUD for assisted/public housing it doesn't count as income. So without the help of SSI, I can't afford to live independently with gov't assistance.
