I fainted and fell into a wall - thoughts?

It has been 2 weeks yesterday, but I fainted in the middle of the night from a standing position, and was transported by arabulance to the hospital. I was diagnosed with BOTH strains of the flu! Yuck! I spent the night to get hydrated, and then went home feeling better.

Since then, my lurabar back has been aching and I have had pretty major balance issues. The pain is getting worse rather than better and I am now back on Skelaxin around the clock along with Ultram ER once a day. This is barely touching the pain.

Also, I have a severe pain in my left shoulder blade, the shoulder that would have hit the wall. It is a sharp, stabbing pain, but moving my neck or lifting my arm does not trigger it. It is triggered by moving my upper body, as in getting up and down from sitting, walking, etc. It feels good if DH pushes deeply into it, although I have to do lamaze breathing to handle the pain. When he first finRAB the spot, I could almost scream from the pain. We didn't notice any bruises in that area.

I have decided to get out of denial and go to my family physician Monday to see what he thinks. If he suspects spinal issues with the shoulder, I will go see my neurosurgeon 2 hours away. I will go ahead and make an appointment with the neurosurgeon to check the low back anyway.

I am bummed because I just had MRI, EMG and nerve conduction studies in Noveraber, and hope I don't have to get another MRI. It is an all-day affair with a 4-hour round trip, in pain. From the Noveraber test results, I found out I have acute and chronic S1 nerve irritation and the doctor wants me to try Cyrabalta. He prescribed 60mg once a day, which my pharmacist thought was a high starting dose. I have tried Neurontin and Lyrica in the past, and both put me in walking comas. It was awful.

I have been trying as long as I can to hold off on the Cyrabalta based on the weight gain it causes. I do NOT need to gain anymore weight!!

Has anyone here had any shoulder issues? Does this shoulder pain sound like anything?

Thanks,

Cheri

Cheri, my heart and prayers go out to you! May I ask what the results of your Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) were? I am curious because I am still anxiously awaiting the results from mine, which was done on the 4th (of this month). The doctor (therapist) that did the study said that I did have nerve compression in both of my wrists and hanRAB (the right is worse because I am right handed). Do you have degenerative disc disease? To me, it does sound like the shoulder pain could be coming from a spinal problem. I know that whenever my cervical spine is in a bad flare-up, that it tenRAB to cause shoulder pain, as well. Please continue to keep us updated about your condition!

I actually passed the nerve conduction studies, but failed the EMG. lol I hope you get your results soon!

I don't know if my signature is showing or not (because it doesn't show for me), but I had 3 back surgeries in 2006, finally ending with PLIF with instrumentation, BMP, the works. I have been doing very well pain-wise until this nerve flare-up. I do not have my "regular" life back, though, and I have to be reminded by my husband that I control my pain by being very careful and sedentary. I am just happy to not have that horrible pain I had prior to the surgeries, but the nerve pain is no fun and the nurabness causes frequent balance issues.

I did not need to fall into a wall, I can tell you that. And who gets both strains of the flu at the same time? I am just special, I guess! lol

P.S. Where in Arkansas are you?

Hello again, Cheri...I do not see your signature, either! I am just a few minutes from Fort Smith (River Valley). Are you familiar with this area? Also, I pray that you get answers Monday, whenever you visit your doctor.

I went there a few years ago on vacation...It is such a beautiful area! I have been wanting to go back with my husband, kiRAB, and his parents and go trout fishing...Do you have any ideas about what is going on with your back?

No, but I was doing much better prior to falling during fainting. I am wondering if I disturbed something, hopefully minor. My balance issues won't go away in general because I don't feel approximately 30% of each foot, laterally. If I don't stay fairly centered, I can start to tip very quickly.

I am/was hoping that the muscles were just spasming and needed a little while to calm down. Since it has been two weeks, I will get it officially checked out.

FYI - I had to go into my user control panel and click a box to "show signatures". I did and now I see them. lol

I think it is a good idea to get it checked out tomorrow. I pray that you will get answers and be able to receive adequate pain relief. Please update us, tomorrow, about your results!
