I drive a 96 dodge caravan, and I know it burns some oil. ?

when you check a engine hot some of the oil is still in the engine and hasn't drained back into the pan yet. no clue about the problem though, sorry
 
The past two days I have started my car to leave and come home from work like every other day. Yesterday, my car shut itself off and the oil light came on, so i checked it and it was showing nothing on the dipstick. So I added a quart of oil to make it home, and when my dad checked it this morning it was overful, this evening driving home from work I had the same problem with my car shutting itself down and the oil light coming on. What could be wrong with it/
