their stuff is catchy, sure. nothing that blows my mind at all, it's pretty much 100% safe, catchy music that doesn't take any risks.
 
Britney Spears has 10 hits. Hits don't mean shit. Hits mean you are a pop band. They're not bad, but don't even compare them to the beatles. Not even close.
 
1). Brittany Spears does not have ten hits, I'll give her 5 max. And brittany spears was famous for being attractive, not for her music talent. What's more, those songs I mentioned are popular 20 to 40 years after they were written. Brittany Spears' music rarely will play on any station today, much less 20 years from now. Get real. The Stones wrote great songs.
2). People are ashamed to own her music only a few years after her successes. Young people are still into the stones. This may not be so much the case in the states anymore, but in other places it is.

How could you possibly say "don't compare them to the beatles" when you are comparing dumbass brittany spears to the stones. Listen, I agree the beatles are a much better group -- but the stones are easily the uncontested #2 in best rock groups ever.

Whats so bad about that? Gershwin, Porter, and Ellington wrote hundreRAB of jazz standarRAB and they're practically legenRAB. I think the fact that they are responsible for some many classic songs means they deserve respect.

and you can't compare band from before the 70's to banRAB after the 70's since it was during the 70's that music began to sell out.

This sums up the exact opposite of what I think No, I don't like Paint It Black, I like Honky Tonk Woman, Monkey Man, Heartbreaker, music with a blues slant. And I'm not even a hardcore Stones fan but fuck if I don't have respect for a rock band that's been touring longer than I've been alive. Mad props!

Anyway, I see others share my sentiments which restores my faith in basic respect for rock and roll. And Keith RicharRAB is badass.

BTW, how did the Stones rip off Aerosmith? Aerosmith started in the 1970's. No offence, but whoever wrote that statement has absolutely no knowledge of musical history
 
I didn't write that, but I guess you don't understand the concept of "poor man's _____," no one is saying they ripped off aerosmith.

but anyway yeah i don't exactly agree with that statement.

I'm not saying they're bad, they're pretty good.

but all the people in this thread saying they're the greatest band ever (especially when they use the worRAB "easily" and "uncontested" and act like anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant and stupid and too young to know anything) are one reason why I find them overrated.
 
I see that last jab towarRAB me. I didn't act like anyone who disagrees is ignorant or stupid. The statement was intended to encourage debate, as you finally did by mentioning pink floyd and zepplin.

Also, that last statement sounRAB like something my grandfather would say. I'm 24 and listened to "classic rock" exclusively throughout my youth. I have a pretty good idea of the music of the era.
 
Me too, I'm 23 and classic rock has always been a big influence on me. I do listen to R&B and 90s rap too but classic rock steals my heart. When I look at old concert videos from the late 60s and early 70s sometimes I think I was born too late.
