I don't have apple wood. Can I marinade a random wood in apple juice?

I know this sounds stupid but I really can't find those woods for smoking stuff.
Is it possible to boil a random wood or perhaps dried coconut shell (look like wood) in apple juice, and let it dry after boiling it? -.-

Or how about burning minced apples together with the bbq coals? -_-"
