i dont get it..Help!!!!(sports)?

when we played kickball i hit it then got on 1st base.When one of my team mates hit it,it went in the air and was caught nd he got out but while it was in the air i ran to 2nd.i made it there but they just passed the ball to the 2nd baseman nd i was out.WHY??i pretty new soo i dont really kno the other rules.All the rules i kno are hit and run.And i also want to know if its the same in baseball too
