I didn't charge my iPhone 3GS right away?!?

So I got an iPhone 3GS on Wednesday, and as soon as I got it I started texting people, and then once I got home I charged it. Was it bad to use it immediately before charging it? The battery is draining extremely quickly now, and I'm worried that had something to do with it. If not, what is wrong? Should I take it back for having a faulty battery? Or is there something happening? I've turned off push notifications, location services, etc. Thank you!!
 
If it's a used one prolly the battery is shot.Try this,look to see how much charge it has now,if it's drained just recharge it.Depending on the condition of the battery will give you is when you make a decision to buy a new battery.
