I desperately need help on this astronomy question please someone?

Suppose that stars form in our Galaxy at an average rate of 10 per year. Suppose also that all stars greater than 8 solar masses explode as supernovae.

estimate the rate of Type II supernovae in our Galaxy in
supernovae per year

Please help me i so lost ... thank you

You need to use the Salpeter initial mass function equation to figure out what percentage of stars formed are greater than 8 solar masses, and then compare that to the star formation rate of 10 per year.
