I cant get any spark on my Honda CR85R?

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I need some help. I have weak to no spark going to the spark plug so naturally it wont start. I have a 12 volt light tester so i unplugged the wire coming out of the stator and kicked it over and it lit up nice. I then checked the wire coming out of the CDI to the Ht coil and it lit up again, just not as brightly. I then put the light on the spark plug wire coming out of the Ht coil and nothing. So I bought a new HT coil, installed it and nothing again. I even eliminated the spark plug wire and boot by removing them and checking directly at the outlet of the coil. I checked the resistance according to the shop manual and it ohms out fine. I ground down the frame where the HT coil mounts and also checked the stop button. It seems like it has to be the HT coil but I hear they rarely go out and this one is brand new and I get the same readings on it as my old one. Any ideas? thanks
