I CANT FIND MY THERMOSTAT ON MY 2004 CHRYSLER SEBRING LXI?

i have a 2.7 engine and i need to change it but i cant find it, my car keeps over heating after only about 3 miles and steam comes out of the top right next to a sensor from underneath a piece that is clamped to a hose. and ive heard that the thermostat is actually located somewhere else!! what is going on??
