My mobile phone is a Sony Erricsson K618i model and my laptop is a HP Compaq nx6120 model. Both my mobile phone and laptop are able to detect each other but I cannot transfer files from my mobile phone to my laptop and vice versa. I have not set any password to my mobile phone and to my laptop. When I tried to pair my laptop up with my mobile phone, I couldn't do so because the system doesn't accept that I do not have a password for both devices. That said, how do I setup a password for both devices? Please help! Thank you.
Previously, I could bluetooth pictures from my mobile phone to my laptop. But after I reformatted my laptop, I can't seem to transfer via bluetooth.

It might be just that Bluetooth on your phone is not the "kind" that allows data transfer. Many phones have Bluetooth for just the voice between the phone and an external device (they'll not even allow you to hear music from you phone via your Bluetooth earpiece.) Call Sony and ask. Or read about Bluetooth features in the manual to your phone.
