I cannot get my desktop to connect to my home wireless connection?

So I recently obtained a desktop PC (I think it may be an HP Pavilion p6670t series, not entirely sure, however) from my mother. It is running Windows 7, and she got it from an office she worked at, where the software they were going to install wasn't entirely compatible with Windows 7, however, she had it connected to the internet there, and checked her e-mail on it a few times.

I got it all hooked up and set up this evening, only to find that it located my wireless internet once, and would not connect. I tried to manually connect, I tried just about every option that Google provided. I know it has a wireless card, seeing as my mother used it at her office with a wireless connection.

It will not recognize my internet connection, and when I attempt to seek out the IP address, on every line in the command prompt screen, it simply says, "media disconnected" or some such.

My router is on the opposite end of the other room (though it recognized it when I first started it up), so connecting it via a cable is just about out of the question. Can anybody help me?
