I can;t get the basic photo uploader to work.?

I fill in the name of the JPG file on my hard drive, fill in the information about the photo, and click on Add Now. The application freezes, and the photo doesn't get uploaded. (I can't use the advanced uploader because my system won't run Flash Player.) What can I do?
