i bought a car from a different state how can i register the title?

ok well i live in tennessee and i went down to alabama to buy a car. well the title is registered in alabama. he has already signed the title over to my name all i have to do is go to the dmv what do i have to take with me well it be any different than a regular tn title somebody told me i had to bring a bill of sale with me to is that true
