I am 16 years old. This is my first car ever, and I was desperate. I bought a silver 1997 ford taurus from friends of the family for $500. They sold it because they are leaving the country forever.. I need it for college and everything. Apparently it just got a tune up? dont know what that means.. and the oil was changed.

So. how much longer could this last me? thank you!

A tune up is mainly just a routine change of spark plugs and wires. The car runs better afterwards.

For 500 bucks the car should last at least 6 months. My equation is for every 1000$ you spend, you get a year out of the car plus planned and unplanned maintenance. A car with nearly 200k miles on it is most likely going to have unexpected problems often. Best of luck.

:) I think its cool & and a good deal.

I am 23,bout to buy my 2nd car-(lost the first to a REPOSSESION).

I am going 2 buy a '91 Lincoln TownCar. $700 bucks from a friend of mine.
Its a SALVAGE,but runs excellent.

You obviously are verrrrry intelligent.Though it may or may not be the "coolest car" & probably not your 1st pick,,,but by far a smart choice.

In my opinion.

Just dont be reckless & drive it crazy or worse high or drunk...YOU WILL WRECK INTO SOMETHING!!

Be Careful & I wish you the best :)

All depends on how you drive it and how well you take care of it my man and how well they drove it and took care of it. Tune up means that they just changed the spark plugs, the wire set, and changed the oil and oil filter. It was probably check over as well, meaning that they checked the drive belt which turns your alternator, water pump, A/C pump, and powersteering pump. Probably checked the radiator hoses and vacuum lines as well.
You seem to have gotten a good deal out of it. Just have it serviced regularly and it could last you quite a well longer. Probably not long enough to get you through college though.
