I had blackouts as a kid in the morning like 10-12 yrs age. I just saw a neurologist for some other problems recently (like unequal pupils, extreme vertigo, migraines, ect.) He said the blackouts are the first stage of the "Migraine Disease" that appear in kids/ teens. he said they are a symptom... as I come to find out Migraines are more than just bad headaches... He really explained alot. I sometimes get the fuzzy white specs in my eyes also. He called that Aura (or some thing like that). But that is another symptom. Also most Migraine suffers also had bad motion sickness as a child that stays with them as adult. (again me). I also found a book called "The Migraine Brain" which when I was reading sounded like it knew me better than me.

So to wrap it up... maybe you also had blackouts that was the beginnings of your Migraine issues. Migraines are more than the headaches... and some people get other symptoms and never get the classic headache.

Hope this helps some.

that is interesting,i have never ever heard of migrane ever referred to as an actual 'disease" in any way shape of form. its really more of a 'condition' or syndrome that gets triggered by 'something'? it can be a food you have even ate the day before(this is how my food triggers work, never occurs the day i eat something but always the next day), or certain smells or alot of other possible 'triggers' i too have been having lifelong migranes since age 13. mine ALWAYS start with that really insane aura too.

anyones particular type of auras can be very very different from someone elses,it just is. what i am wondering about your head pain is one of two things really. this "could just be the migrnae symdrome which your doc can rx what are called "abortives' as far as you take the meds as soon as that aura starts and in almost every case,in about 45 min or so,the eyes clear and that really truely horrid migrnae pain never actually occurs. this would be worth a try with one of those meds to just see if it works for you at all. if it is acvtaully the classic form with aura attached,it would more than likely help to abort that head pain part and clear the eyes too.

one other possible here is that these just 'could' possibly be some type of overly firing nerve synapses as in what happens with siezure activity? there are a ton of different types of siezures that are just possible to get or have that present themselves in some very insane ways.

the one thing i would do as soon as you can get one is to speak with your primary about getting referred to a good neurologist right now. they would evaluate your particular symptoms and descriptions of like everything that just occurs when this happens and also do some basic types of testing to try and narrow down any possible reasons/triggers for what has been occuring in you. even doing a contrasted MRI on your brain could possibly show something up there that is 'off' in some way or some other possible finding that could create what occurs in you when this all happens.

just an FYI here that may explain that feeling of the blood "rushing'? what actually takes place at the very beginning of a migrane type syndrome is a constriction of the blood vessls within our brains. this can lead to the aura from kind of occular reduction in blood flow that creates the wierd types of 'hallucinations' we see as the actual aura? when the constriction occurs, the brain compensates in in certain ways which one of is it starts sending out signals to 'send up blood' since it is kind of being 'starved" to a degree from just that sudden constriction(the brain just NEEDS that oxygen contained within the blood cells). after alot of those "distress" signals keep getting sent, what actually creates the horrid throbbing of the true migrane is when all those signals finally connect and a huge amount of sudden bloodflow will hit the vessels in the brain, and this is what overly dilates the vessels themselves that causes the pounding and throbbing to occur. its really that very basic constriction then sudden over dilation/rapid expansion that IS what causes the aura and the head pain too. this 'process' just will usually have some type of underlying trigger that will set that whole cycle/syndrome into motion.

i just really do think your very best bet here at this point is to obtain that referrral to a good neuologist and then hopefully at the very least he will order the contrasted MRI just to get that ball rolling towards trying to rule out or in certain possibles here for this to even be occuring. 'something' just has to be causing/triggering this type of thing and its a matter of really looking into the most likely areas of involvement to find that.

hopefully this is just classic migrane syndrome that you can simply take a good abortive type med like i do with mine. i have been on a med called midrin since it was the first abortive actually to hit the market way back in like 1981? it has never let me down even over all these years. just one good one that has been around the longest that really works well. i wish you luck with this and just finding out soon exactly what this is and getting it appropriately treated and managed. please let us know what you find out, FB
