I asked this kid to the dance and we're friends but dont really talk that much...?

I asked this kid to TWIRP (a dance..) and he said yes. We're friends and stuff it's just that we don't really talk all that much. I see him and stuff threw out the day it's just we don't talk all that much and i feel like it's going to get to be the night of the dance and I'll just be like ...uhhh hey. like awkwardish? so i want to start talking to him more up until then. (it's in like... 2 weeks i think?) What do I say??????? Just anything besides awkward small talk!!!!!
 
Start of with a joke or say utter madness. Find a neutral topic to talk about, something common. Get him laughing and move on from there. hope this helps laughing on a fast camel/or so it seems? mwah ha ha ha ha. :)
