out of curiosity; I'll rephrase-? I asked why it was necessary to celebrate the history of a particular race for a month when no other races were given such attention?
Yes, I understand, people were oppressed and horrible things happened, but we all learn about it the same way we do other histories (ie. classes, documentaries, museums, the like) so why is there a month separate for Black History?
There are other month's for particular history, but why should one be given attention, or why should we even have "months" for history anyways? Shouldn't we always be raised that history of our heritage and other's is important enough so we don't have to have dates that we SHOULD cover the history?
It just befuddles me. Why can't we just have All History Year in place of segregated months that might exclude groups? ie. Irish, Polynesian, German, Italian, Protestant (after all, they were some of the ORIGINAL founders of colonial America)?
I know there are months for other groups' history, but people aren't aware on the scale that they are of the Black History Month; it's given vivid attention and celebration, while others become a one time History Channel special.
