What would be a realistic way that a very powerful parent could sabotage their child's college application. My story involves a boy who wanted to go to an Ivy League School but his mother wanted him to stay local and in order to sabotage him, she tampered with his college application somehow. What would be a realistic way that she could sabotage him in this way? Thanks! :)Great answers, thanks!

Tell him she'll post it, but hijack it and return it home?Rip it up...Chuck it away...Recycle it...

The mother could make the application look unprofessional by staining it with food. Edit it so it has the wrong home adress. Add spelling and gramatical erorrs. Or just tell the son she will send it and then don't.

Pay off the high school administrator to change his grades... I dunno. That's pretty low for a parent...

he left his application at home, or already put it in the mail; while he was gone or at school, his mom went to the mailbox before the mailman arrived, and burned his application. when he got home, the mailman already picked up the mail, he assumed it got sent.months later, he doesn't recieve any acceptance from the college, he thinks he wasn't good enough to get in, his mother happily comforts him, saying that ther's always that local college nearby.

never send it in, or she could print out a fake one with bad grades and send the real one to the local college

She could send an application forged with all the wrong answers. And even if the kid sent his application after the school most likely wouldn't take him seriously given the situation. But in the end I think if your character wants it bad enough he'll find a way.
