yep, this certainly would be probably the best way to actually 'see' those crucial areas, much much better than ANY type of actual scan could, ever. i only had an MR angiography to check out my common bile duct and the intrahepatics about six month ago to see if they were enlarged because of a kidney liver disease i have or something else. my last monitoring US had showed a very enlarged CBD and they needed to know why, so all i had was that MR done(with some nasty constrast). but the next step, if they had seen anything then would have been the ERCP. anytime you can have any type of 'seeing into your body with someones actual eyes" type of test like the ERCP does, it is always much much better than any scan pics could possibly provide. some things just do not actually show up on any types of scans, so doing this really would be probably the very best way for them to really "see' you on the inside, ya know?
my best advice would be to just speak with whoever is going to be in charge of your sedation and tell them about your fears here, i am sure the anesthesiologist can provide you with something that will help you in the very best ways to just get this done and overwith. its not the most fun type of test but ya gotta look at what they are really trying to find out for you,the bigger picture? this really IS a great test for what your symptoms are, really. its always that fear of the unknown that will make us feel the way we do with most tests we only have "heard about", ya know what i mean? i have been down this road many times with the huge number of many different types of kinda scarey tests i have had to have done too. you will be just fine. like i already mentioned, just speak with the anesthesiologist, they KNOW how some people are with this test and will help. please let me know just what they find out,K?
