I began renting a house four months ago. Within two months that we lived there, we got a letter with the title, NOTICE OF TRUSTEE'S SALE. We didn't know what to do, so we called our property manager, and were told that the owners were going through a loan modification. Since then the date of the sale has been changed twice. We don't know if they really are going through a modification or they just want to get more money. We stopped paying rent and it has been about two months now, and now they are suing us. We stopped paying rent because a couple days after we moved in, the ceiling in the kitchen collapsed and they never fixed it. And we also want to save money just in case we have to move out. I want to know what could happen. Was it wrong that they didn't tell us about the situation of the house? Was it wrong for us not to pay? We are working with someone, but I just want to hear different opinions.
